Rotary Club Of La
Mirada
P. O. Box 248
La Mirada, California 90637 |
Since June 1957, the Rotary Club of La Mirada has played an
important part in the life of the community. Members have not only
actively supported the efforts of Rotary Club, but have volunteered in their
churches and in public and business organizations and served on numerous
civic committees. Rotary Club of La Mirada takes great pride in the fact
that we have members born on five different continents and one Pacific
Island. In addition those born in the continental U.S. are from every
geographical region.
Since its inception the Rotary Club of La Mirada has supported many programs which
benefit the youth of La Mirada. One example is the awarding of
scholarships to deserving students. In the over 30 years since the
inception of the program the Rotary Club has granted scholarships in excess of
$125,000.
Each December needy elementary school students are taken on a shopping
spree at Marshall's during which they, with assistance from Rotarians, select
articles of clothing which they like both like and need. Afterwards, a lively party is held at
a senior home, The Palms, in La Mirada.
Rotary Club of La Mirada annually sends two 11th grade students to the Rotary Youth
Leadership Awards camp. These students have a weekend of positive training
which they truly appreciate and will never forget.
La Mirada Rotarians have contributed to Rotary International's drive
to eradicate polio world wide, an effort that will be proven to be
successful in 2005. La Mirada Rotarians are lining up to join Rotary's
next major battle, eliminating illiteracy in our world. To do our part in
this battle, we have donated over 3,000 books to the Foster Road School
Library. Rotary Club members and friends have spent hundreds of hours
working one on one to help students improve their reading skills.
An annual golf tournament, generally held in April, provides a
significant portion of the money needed to fund the club's efforts in the
community. Food booths are operated at two of the city's annual events,
the Celebration in the Park and the Stroll in the Park. Rotary Club of La
Mirada members
also participate in the Kid's Carnival, working as ticket sellers. From
time to time there are other events which provide additional revenue.
La Mirada Rotarians understand that caring people joined together in
an atmosphere of fellowship can make a difference. Along with the over
1,220,000 Rotarians in 166 countries, La Mirada Rotarians believe in the
advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace. Members
not only are advocates for high ethical standards in business, but daily
demonstrate their support to this significant part of the Object of
Rotary.
Meeting weekly on Wednesday, at 12:15 p.m., Rotarians hear
interesting programs on local and international subjects while enjoying
outstanding food and fellowship. The luncheon meetings are held at
Candlewood Country Club, 14000 Telegraph Rd., Whittier, telephone
562-941-1228. Our club is in Rotary District 5320.

The La Mirada Rotary Club is Eager to Share Its Legacy
La Mirada Rotary Club is always looking for new members. To qualify a man
or woman must own a business, be a professional or be in the management of
a for-profit or non-profit organization. Persons who are retired but would
have qualified while working are also eligible. Potential members must be
sponsored by a member and approved by the membership. The time demands are
not great but the rewards are.
As a member of the Rotary Club of La Mirada, you will find, like all
Rotarians have, the great satisfaction that comes from belonging to a
positive, fun-filled organization which lives by a motto, Service Above
Self, and:
The 4-Way Test of the things we think, say or do
- Is it the TRUTH?
- Is it FAIR to all concerned?
- Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
- Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
